  • Where do I feel I can make the biggest impact?

For me, the answer lies in helping people overcome anxiety, boost confidence, and unlock the mental clarity they need to move forward in life. But if you’re starting your own practice, your niche might be different—weight loss, smoking cessation, phobia treatment, performance enhancement, or something else entirely. The key is to narrow it down and become an expert in that area.

Step 2: Setting Up the Business Side (The Unsexy But Crucial Part)

Ah, the business side of things—the part most therapists wish they could skip but absolutely can’t. The reality is, no matter how skilled I am as a hypnotherapist, if I don’t set up a solid foundation for my practice, I’ll be the best-kept secret in town (which is not the goal).

Here’s what I had to focus on first:

1. Legal & Professional Requirements

  • Registering my business
  • Getting insured (because, let’s be real, the unexpected does happen)
  • Setting up contracts and client forms

2. Pricing & Packages

  • How do I charge in a way that reflects my worth and is accessible?
  •  Do I offer single sessions, packages, or membership models?
  •  What’s my cancellation and refund policy?

I quickly realised that undercharging (which I was tempted to do at first) wouldn’t serve me or my clients in the long run. People value what they invest in, and pricing my services appropriately sets the tone for the transformation they’ll experience.

3. Finding a Space

  • Do I rent a therapy room or start online?
  • How do I make the space comfortable, professional, and aligned with my brand?

In today’s world, more and more hypnotherapists are seeing clients online, and that’s something I’m embracing as well. Virtual sessions allow for greater flexibility, but I also want to eventually have a physical space where I can see clients in person.

Step 3: Marketing Without Feeling Like a Salesperson

I knew that if I wanted to build a thriving practice, I couldn’t just sit around hoping clients would magically find me. Marketing was essential, but the last thing I wanted was to come across as pushy or gimmicky. So, I asked myself: how can I market in a way that feels authentic?

1. Building an Online Presence

I started with the basics: a website, social media accounts, and an email list. My website had to be more than just a digital business card—it needed to connect with visitors and answer the questions they didn’t even realize they had.

That meant including:

  •   A clear explanation of what I do and who I help
  • Real stories and testimonials (as they come in)
  • A blog (like this one!) to educate and engage potential clients
  • A way for people to easily book sessions

2. Leveraging Social Media

Instead of trying to be everywhere, I focused on platforms that made the most sense for me. Instagram and Facebook are great for storytelling and engaging with potential clients. LinkedIn is perfect for connecting with professionals who might refer clients my way.

Rather than just posting generic content, I aim to share:

One thing I’ve learned is that success isn’t about knowing everything; it’s about taking action with what you already know. And so, I keep moving forward, one step at a time.

As I was watching CNN recently, something struck me. Almost every program and journalist was introduced as a five-time Emmy Award winner or some other impressive accolade. But when CNN first started, it had zero awards. It was just another news channel trying to find its place in a crowded media landscape.

That realisation hit me like a wave. Every successful person, every renowned institution, every award-winning clinic started somewhere. They didn’t begin as giants—they became giants through persistence, excellence, and time.

Right now, I’m at the beginning of my journey. My clinic doesn’t have awards yet. My name isn’t synonymous with success yet. But one day, I aspire to be an award-winning therapist, running a well-renowned, thriving hypnotherapy clinic.
